Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC)

Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC): undertakes all environment related issues in shipping that affects not only under water ecosystems but also ashore and the air. This includes topics such as climate change, oil spill prevention and response, harmful aquatic invasive species and ballast water management, noxious substances transported by ships, waste generated in ship and its management, bilge water management, air pollution and noise pollution. The ITF, as an international organisation speaking on behalf of all global supply chain workers, acknowledges fully the pivotal importance of environmental protection.

The ITF makes sure environmental protection strategies and regulations enshrine the protection of safety of human lives at sea and port communities as priority as well as uphold the development of a robust port State control scheme which prevents maritime workers’ rights being violated from criminalisation.
