Inland transport and HIV/AIDS

Cutting infections in the road and railway sectors

Road transport and railway workers are vulnerable to HIV/AIDS infection. The reasons run deeper than just spending long periods away from home. Many workers experience poor working conditions and their places of work lack basic health information and services.

We’re committed to working with our affiliates, employers and other stakeholders to cut HIV infection among inland transport workers and reduce the stigma and discrimination they face.

ITF has created the following resources to help trade unions understand the HIV vulnerability of truckers and railway workers and take necessary action:

  • Driving for change – A multimedia training toolkit on HIV/AIDS for the road transport sector
  • On the right track – A training toolkit on HIV/AIDS for the railway sector

To request hard copies of the resources above, contact the HIV/AIDS team.
