Victoria Nwakolo is a second-generation railway worker, passionate about Nigeria’s railways as the best way to transport the people and oil vital to the country’s economy. Trains have far lower carbon emissions than alternatives - but investment in sustainable transport should not be at cost of worker welfare.

If the Government looked after the workers, the trains would be better. And better trains will make Nigeria better. I promise and I know.

Care before Profit

As recently as 2023, 748 million people aged 15 and above were outside the labour force due to care responsibilities across the globe. A shocking yet unsurprising 708 million of these workers are
