Statement: Panama Canal Authority on course to undermine reputation of Panama’s most vital national asset

The International Transport Workers’ Federation (ITF) is astonished and disappointed to read in the media of the Panama Canal Authority’s (ACP) aggressive and negative reaction to the launch of the independent study commissioned by the ITF that assessed the serious health and safety risks related to the fatigue of tugboat captains in the new Neopanamax locks.

At the 7th annual UN forum for business and human rights in Geneva, Switzerland, 26–28 November, the ITF has demanded good practice from businesses to respect the labour rights of all their employees, including workers throughout their supply chains and others affected by their business relationships.

Agreement on minimum wage for seafarers announced

Geneva – 19-20 November 2018: The social partners, namely the International Transport Workers’ Federation (ITF) and the International Chamber of Shipping (ICS), convened in Geneva at the Joint Maritime Commission (JMC) subcommittee on seafarers wages to review the International Labour Organization (ILO) Minimum Wage for an Able Seafarer (AB) provided for in Code B of the Maritime Labour Convention, 2006 (as amended).
