Venezuela and Guyana unions call for peace in border issue

ニュース

They also agreed to implement actions in the two countries in order to encourage citizens to request a positive dialogue between their governments for the benefit of people in both nations.

The declaration calls for an ample and positive dialogue between both countries, without any unilateral rushed decisions, based on common understanding, solidarity and mutual support for development.

The signatories urge the utilisation of all diplomatic resources to reach a peaceful, fair, amicable and permanent solution to the dispute and to promote the future defence of their children through peace, common understanding, sustainable development, integration and solidarity among the countries’ trade unions.

Antonio Rodriguez Fritz, ITF Americas regional secretary, said: “This declaration is an historic event in the region. We hope workers bring a different direction to something that some politicians, evidently influenced by other parties, including some translational corporations, are escalating.

“I am very pleased with the comradeship between the ITF unions in Venezuela and Guyana. Peace is essential for both countries and for the region. It is very important that this declaration does not remain only on paper and that the actions agreed by the unions in both countries materialise.

“The ITF works for peace and we offer all our support to trade unions in both countries as peace is precious for all. Only in peace can trade unions flourish and get stronger.”

The meeting was made possible thanks to the hospitality of Brazilian ITF affiliates, in particular with the help of Severino Almeida of CONTTMAF and Omar Gomes of the CNTTT.
