New HIV/AIDS education film part of ITF drive to keep seafarers ‘healthy and happy’

news 17 Nov 2016

‘I know my status’ is a collaboration between the ITF, ITF affiliate the Associated Maritime Officers and Seamen’s Union of the Philippines (AMOSUP), manning agent JMG and employer Magsaysay’s social development arm the Homer Group inc.

Maritime Coordinator of the ITF Jacqueline Smith was at the launch. She said: “The ITF is committed to keeping seafarers healthy and happy, and to remove the stigma and discrimination that still exists around HIV/AIDS. This awareness video is going to help make sure all seafarers have the information they need around HIV/AIDS and encourage them to know their status through voluntary testing and counselling. We welcome the opportunity to work with all stakeholders on these kind of initiatives that are ultimately about supporting seafarers in a really practical way.

The film will be translated into a number of languages to be used to support seafarers globally, not just in the Philippines and will be available via the ITF seafarers’ wellness app
