ITF, ADLSA and ILO agree to work towards safeguarding transport workers’ rights

ニュース 記者発表資料

The parties agreed on steps to implement activities outlined in the TCP, specifically focusing on transport workers.

This breakthrough follows the recent announcement that the majority of migrant workers in Qatar covered by the labour code will no longer have to obtain exit permits to leave the country.

ITF general secretary Stephen Cotton commented: “We believe that this meaningful cooperation provides a clear message to the regional and global community that the government of Qatar is fully committed to the TCP and workers’ rights generally.

“We look forward to working with the ADLSA and the ILO over the next two years with the aim of guaranteeing the protection of labour and social rights of all transport workers in Qatar.”

Dr Issa Saad Al Jafali Al Nuaimi, Minister of Administrative Development, Labour and Social Affairs, added: “This cooperation with the ITF is a good opportunity to benefit from its experience and to enhance the Technical Cooperation Programme with the ILO.”

Houtan Homayounpour, head of the ILO project office in Qatar, said: “Partnerships such as this will help to greatly advance our joint efforts to ensure decent working conditions for all workers in Qatar."
