Unions stage action day to put pressure on DPW to resolve problems

ニュース 記者発表資料

ITF-affiliated dockers’ unions will be staging actions on Monday 7 October 2013 as part of a global day of action designed to put pressure on DPW (Dubai Ports World) to listen to its workers and engage with unions.

The day is the latest move in an ongoing campaign to highlight the need for DPW to engage with unions worldwide over trade union rights and representation.

ITF (International Transport Workers’ Federation) unions in several locations are involved in ongoing negotiations with DPW, including at London Gateway, UK; the Port of Brisbane, Australia; Chennai container terminal, India; and in the Port of Callao in Peru.

ITF president and dockers’ section chair Paddy Crumlin explained: “DPW unions have resolved to use this action day to promote positive and transparent dialogue with the company in various locations because they're committed to finding solutions where there are currently disputes. This kind of solidarity among a group of workers who ultimately have the same employer is what the ITF is all about.”

Expected union activities include lawful action at DPW terminals and company offices, and visits by unions to United Arab Emirates embassies.
