ITF statement on Air Canada Express Flight 8646 collision at LaGuardia Airport

ニュース

The International Transport Workers’ Federation (ITF) expresses its deepest condolences following the tragic collision involving an Air Canada Express aircraft at LaGuardia Airport in New York.

We mourn the loss of the two pilots who were killed in the incident workers who have dedicated their lives to the safe transport of passengers, and their deaths are a profound loss to our global aviation community. Our thoughts are with their families, friends, and colleagues during this incredibly difficult time.

We also extend our solidarity to all those injured in the collision, including passengers, crew members, and emergency responders.

This collision underlines the high-risk environment aviation workers operate in every day and the critical importance of robust safety systems and coordination on the ground.

The ITF calls for a full, transparent investigation to ensure that the causes are identified and that lessons are acted on without delay. We strongly caution any speculation before the investigation is concluded. There can be no compromise on safety.

Transport workers keep the world moving. They must be able to do so safely.

The ITF stands with our affiliates and all those affected by this tragedy.
