ITF congratulates newly-elected ETF officials

ニュース

The announcements came during the ETF congress from 24-26 May in Barcelona. Frank Moreels is chair of Belgian transport union BTB, vice president of the ITF road section and has been an active member of the ETF for many years. Mr Chagas has been ETF general secretary since May 2005.

Steve Cotton, ITF general secretary, said: “We are delighted that Frank and Eduardo have been elected, having worked closely and successfully with both of them for many years. Trade unions in Europe are facing tough times with globalisation and deregulation and ETF unions can be confident that the ETF will provide strong leadership and support in the fight for a social Europe and fair transport.”

Paddy Crumlin, ITF president, commented that both men were dedicated trade unionists who had the full support of the ITF. He added that he looked forward to working with them to continue to build the union family across Europe and throughout the world.

Several ITF campaigns were highlighted during fringe events, including mobilising unions in the fight against TISA (the Trade in Services Agreement), the fight back against the anti-worker activities of global logistics company XPO, industrial hubs, and in engaging precarious workers to strengthen the presence of trade unions in warehouses.

The ITF’s work on DHL was also showcased as an example of successful, intensive campaigning, following the protocol agreed in 2016 by the ITF, UNI global union and DP-DHL. There were also elections for youth, women and executive committee members.
