DHL workers in India act in support of Latin American colleagues

ニュース 記者発表資料

The company’s behavior was exposed in a new report that found the  global logistics giant guilty of breaking its own – and international – rules on the way its workers are treated (see http://goo.gl/sXNGzJ).

Speaking at a protest rally in Delhi, Narender Mishra, a member of the DHL Employees Union’s Delhi committee, said: “Discrimination against workers for trade union activities, misclassification to deny workers collective bargaining rights - unfortunately we are very familiar with this aggressive approach in India.”

He continued: “Now we know this is also happening in Latin America we are even more angry. We will stand with our sisters and brothers and make sure this company upholds its own policies.”

On Friday Mr Mishra will join ITF representatives in a delegation to the German embassy in Delhi to present a petition signed by DHL workers across India calling for long-standing trade union rights violations in India to be rectified, and for DHL’s code of conduct to be respected throughout its global operations.

Alen Clifford, ITF assistant coordinator – supply chain and logistics, who will be part of the delegation, said DHL global management seemed incapable of learning from its past mistakes: “The 2015 report on DHL’s labour relations in India (http://goo.gl/KCRCiS) contained clear evidence of intimidation and discrimination against trade union activists. This latest report (available at breaking-the-code.org ) paints a picture of global company with no desire or capacity to ensure local management adheres to its standards.”

The delegation will arrive at 09:45 on Friday 11 March, at the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany, No. 6/50G, Shanti Path, Chanakyapuri, New Delhi 110021.
