South American rail unions make plan to unite

news

Activists at an ITF railway unions’ workshop in Chile have agreed to look at ways to unite to build workers’ power.

Participants at the gathering agreed that the practice of having two or three unions at one company should end.

The workshop was attended by over 30 activists from Chile, Brazil, Panama and Argentina.

Many of them reported the same issues of outsourcing and privatisation leading to serious safety problems.

The discussions focused on how best to share experiences, to coordinate activities and be more active in ITF work.
