The ITF has welcomed news received over the weekend from its affiliate the Railwaymen’s Union of Malaya (RUM) that Abdul Razak, the union’s president, has been reinstated with immediate effect by KTMB (Malayan Railways Ltd).

Commenting on last week’s death of a driver crushed by a container reportedly falling from a lorry exiting Doha port, ITF president Paddy Crumlin said: “Injuries associated with containers are all too common. They can occur throughout the supply chain –on ships, in ports, on road and rail. There is a deep and constant need for oversight, care and regulation.”

The ITF has backed the Cathay Pacific Airways Flight Attendants Union (FAU), and appealed to the head of the airline to address workers’ concerns over their conditions.
