The recent attempted shooting of Libyan trade union leader Nermin Al-Sharif highlights the need for affiliates to participate fully in the United Nations day for the elimination of violence against women (VAW) on 25 November, says the ITF.

Following an urgent plea for support from its affiliate in Panama, ITF general secretary Steve Cotton has today written to the president of Panama to demand that the government ceases its persecution of union officials and activists and repay workers’ back wages.

ITF general secretary Steve Cotton was proud to join in the celebrations as affiliate AMOSUP (Associated Marine Officers and Seamen’s Union of the Philippines) marked 55 years of serving seafarers on 11 November.
