The ITF (International Transport Workers’ Federation) has reinforced its commitment to securing an ILO (International Labour Organisation) convention that covers violence against women at work, during a groundbreaking international forum.

The first ever ITF action forum on violence against women working in public transport has been called groundbreaking by participants.

Airport workers will unite across borders tomorrow, 1 June, to deliver the message that while airlines and airports are getting richer their workers are being paid less, worked more, and having their job security torn away. Workers will be flying banners and leafleting in over 30 airports around the world to deliver their message – supported by a new research report – to the public and to the members of the International Air Transport Association (IATA), whose AGM begins tomorrow.

Maritime and oil and gas unions affiliated to global federations IndustriAll and the International Transport Workers’ Federation (ITF) met in Aberdeen 19-20 May 2016 to begin development of an industrial and political strategy to challenge the replacement of quality jobs with cheap labour by employers in the North Sea. The group represents workers from Denmark, Norway and UK.

ITF Arab World regional secretary Bilal Malkawi made the following statement: “We join the families and friends mourning the loss of passengers and crew. Their grief is profound and deeply moving.
