118 inspectors working for the International Transport Workers’ Federation (ITF) have gathered in Panama City, Panama this week for the ITF worldwide inspectors’ seminar (WWIS).

Twenty-six young workers gathered at the Barbados Workers’ Union labour college last week for the first ever seminar specifically for young workers in the Caribbean. The event focused on developing strategic campaigns, as well as on organising skills, educational methods and building a regional network.

Commenting on Saturday’s bomb attacks on a peaceful pro-democracy and justice demonstration, ITF (International Transport Workers’ Federation) general secretary Steve Cotton stated: “A nation’s heart is breaking today. These attacks targeted what is best about Turkey, and some of its most idealistic and motivated people. We in the international union movement share that grief.

Following the conclusion on 20 July of an ITF investigation concerning the Liberian-flagged Stolt Kikyo tanker, which is jointly owned by Nippon Yusen Kaisha (NYK) and Norwegian company Stolt-Nielsen, the ITF has issued this statement.
