The ITF’s air traffic services (ATS) affiliates from 20 countries have agreed to develop a global strategy to stop any negative impact on flight safety and aviation workers’ conditions posed by the growing use of remote air traffic control towers far from airports.

Strikes by civil aviation workers in Brazil and Argentina on 3 February were the latest actions in a battle across the region to improve working conditions at the giant LATAM Airlines Group (LATAM).

Transport workers have held protests in locations across Europe to demonstrate their objection to the poor treatment of workers in the Port of Gdansk, Poland.

Leaders of the ITF and IDC (International Dockworkers’ Council) met in Barcelona, Spain, at the end of last week to look at ways the two organisations can work together to defend dockworkers’ rights.

The ITF is joining forces with the National Confederation of Transport Workers’ Unions (NCTU) and the Centre of United and Progressive Workers (SENTRO) to bring a complaint against the government of the Philippines over its failure to adequately investigate the murders and victimisation of a number of trade unionists, including NCTU leader Antonio Petalcorin.

Representatives of the International Dockworkers’ Council (IDC) and International Transport Workers’ Federation (ITF) met in Barcelona, Spain, today to explore how to work together to defend dockers’ jobs and rights.

Global union federation the ITF (International Transport Workers’ Federation) today condemned the killing of three Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) workers and the wounding of 12 others at Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport on Tuesday.

Commenting on the raid on the CSL Melbourne in Newcastle today, ITF seafarers’ section chair Dave Heindel said: “This raid was an error of truly national dimensions. The Australian government seems hell-bent on stripping away the very protections that make Australia the nation it is, and in doing so is becoming an international embarrassment in an industry seeking higher standards of governance and accountability.”

Commenting on today’s planned TPPA trade agreement signing in New Zealand, ITF (International Transport Workers’ Federation) president Paddy Crumlin said: “We, like our fellow global unions and everyone protesting in Auckland today, are clear about one thing: the TPPA – Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement – offers nothing to workers in the Asia-Pacific region except job insecurity and exclusion.”
