The ITF (International Transport Workers’ Federation) has praised the progress made at this week’s maritime meetings of the ILO in Geneva, which have just concluded.

The ITF (International Transport Workers’ Federation) and the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC) have today submitted a case to the International Labour Organization (ILO) against the government of Thailand. It relates to breaches of ILO Convention 29 on forced labour in the Thai fishing industry. Thailand signed the convention in 1969.

The ITF has joined the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC) in writing to the Cambodian government to express the global union movement’s outrage over the violent attacks against protesting bus drivers and the arrest of two workers during a picket outside the Capitol Bus company on 6 February.

The ITF is joining forces with the National Confederation of Transport Workers’ Unions (NCTU) and the Centre of United and Progressive Workers (SENTRO) to bring a complaint against the government of the Philippines over its failure to adequately investigate the murders and victimisation of a number of trade unionists, including NCTU leader Antonio Petalcorin.
