The (ITF) International Transport Workers Federation and its affiliated unions in Cameroon and the Central African Republic (CAR) today hand-delivered letters to the heads of state of those countries asking them to act to protect truck drivers whose lives are at risk.

“We will not accept our port becoming the capital’s dumping ground.”

On Friday a demonstration led by the ITF-affiliated SIELAS union (Sindicato Nacional de Trabajadores de la Industria de la Aviación Civil y Similares) was held outside DHL’s offices in Panama City. The protestors, joined by an international ITF delegation of DHL union leaders, denounced the company’s anti-union actions, and called for respect for trade union rights and the lifting of a six-month suspension of negotiations on a collective agreement.
