Security and other ground workers at Schiphol Airport, the Netherlands, are celebrating two important wins in their fight for better conditions and improved security.

Airport workers around the world came together last week in a new organisation, Airports United, which kicked off its struggle for economic justice, safety and security with actions in 33 airports. It then took its message – that while airlines are getting richer their workers are being paid less, worked more, and having their job security torn away – direct to the industry executives meeting at the IATA (International Air Transport Association) AGM in Dublin, Ireland.

After more than four months of negotiations, the Union of Air Transport Workers Colombian-Sintratac (Sintratac) has achieved a historic first collective agreement with LATAM Airlines.

The ITF, its member unions and its sister global unions are pressing at the International Labour Conference (ILC) for an international standard on decent work in global supply chains to benefit workers.

Workers will be flying banners and leafleting in over 30 airports around the world to deliver their message – supported by a new research report – to the public and to the members of the International Air Transport Association (IATA), whose AGM begins tomorrow.

Maritime and oil and gas unions affiliated to global federations IndustriAll and the International Transport Workers’ Federation (ITF) met in Aberdeen 19-20 May 2016 to begin development of an industrial and political strategy to challenge the replacement of quality jobs with cheap labour by employers in the North Sea. The group represents workers from Denmark, Norway and UK.

Airports United, a new international network of trade unions representing workers in the aviation and airport industries, will hold a launch press conference on Thursday 2 June to coincide with the IATA (International Air Transport Association) AGM in Dublin, Ireland. You are invited to attend.

A judge in the Netherlands has ordered transport company Farm Trans to pay its Polish sub-contracted truck drivers the same wage as local drivers, after a vigorous campaign for justice by ITF union the FNV.
