The plight of the Malagasy 43 - dockworkers sacked in Madagascar for standing up for their rights - has reached the highest levels of the Madgascan Government today with protests at Parliament and meetings scheduled with Government to try and resolve the dispute.

A new global union alliance formed of unions based in DP World terminals has vowed to raise standards in health and safety, automation and contract labour.

The ITF and local Madagascan union SYGMMA have urged international garment manufacturer Esprit to join with Levi Straus & Co and help end the exploitation of Madagascan dockers.
