Janina Malinovska

It is with deep regret that our sister, Janina Malinovska, passed away on 7 April 2020 after her battle with a long-standing illness.

Janina has been the assistant secretary of Inland Transport for the best part of ten years, and before that had long been part of the ITF family as an affiliate.

Her contribution to the fight for workers’ rights is well known to us all. Janina had the ability to make sure that we kept our feet on the ground and that we remember what we are all fighting for.

She was a tireless advocate for working people and for the rights of everyone to be treated fairly. She will be sadly missed. Her fight is our fight, and we continue to take that forward as the ITF in her honour.

As has been said, Janina has been a good friend to many of us at the ITF, and we know that this very sad news will touch us all.

The deepest condolences from the Nordic Transport Workers’ Federation NTF

For us Nordic colleagues Janina was well-known, liked and highly appreciated colleague also before her time at the ITF, because she used to work at the NTF secretariat from 2006 – 2010.

She was a great colleague and true friend. She always had her heart on the side of the transport workers and she worked in close cooperation with the NTF. Still in February, less than two months ago, she attended a meeting in Stockholm and even paid a visit to the NTF’s new office’s house-warming party.

All our thoughts and prayers remain with Janina’s family at this tremendously difficult time.

Janina's death makes me very sad! My deepest condolence to her son.
I knew Janina for almost twenty years and from the very beginning she was not just a colleague, she was a good friend. Proudly looking back to work with her together in a couple of projects for road Transport workers in central and eastern Europe and having a lot of brilliant memories of having good and funny chats. Rest in peace, Janina!

On behalf of Kommunal, the Swedish Municipal Workers’ Union, we wish to offer our sincere condolences for the loss of Janina Malinovska to her family and to the ITF.
We had the pleasure of working with Janina when she held the position of Baltic Coordinator with the NTF and met regularly in the Baltic Group where we all gained a lot from her vast experiences. During that period we established a very good cooperation with Janina which continued during her time at the ITF.
We recognise the important achievements of Janina and her untiring work for the cause of transport workers. Janina will be remembered as a true and committed trade unionist dedicated to international trade union cooperation and labour rights.

I found out about Janina's death with great sadness. Together we started union work with the Baltic States and Germany in the 1990s and with the ITF.
Dear Janina, we will never forget you.

I was shocked when I heard the news about Janinas too early death. My sincere condolences go to her family, friends and the ITF staff.
I will miss the lively discussions I had with her. When I started working with the international trade union movement, she received me kindly and gave me a lot of valuable advice. I will never forget them, as I will never forget Janina. Rest in peace, sister.

We have often worked together in the ETF and ITF. Janina was always a close friend and just a good and sensitive person. The news of her death hit me extremely hard and I feel that we have all lost someone important irretrievably. RIP

The news of Janina’s passing is so terribly sad. Over the years we got to know each other at ITF events and had some very interesting conversations. She wore her learning lightly, and I recall delight at her warmth, sincerity, humour and very hard work for the cause. An inspirational woman. My thoughts are with her family, friends, ITF colleagues and fellow unionists everywhere.

It is with great sadness that we learned of the passing of Janina. While at the ITF, she made a significant and lasting contribution to the development of a number of ILO tools and meeting outcomes, including the HIV/AIDS training toolkits, the Social Dialogue in the Railways Sector Manual and to the 2015 meeting in the road transport sector. We hope everyone can take strength from the positive contributions Janina made in the road transport and railways sectors.

So sorry to hear this news, Janina was a great help and encouragement when I was working in the Trust, looking to see how we could increase engagement with the missions and truck drivers, and how drivers could be helped in ports with access to some of the facilities provided for seafarers, as had often been the case with Finnish truck drivers. This was in 2010-12, when the conditions Lithuanian truck drivers faced waiting for loads in port areas was grim; lack of showers, toilets and cooking facilities and expected to live in their cabs for two weeks at a stretch. Janina was really concerned about them and their families and worked to improve the situation. She was a compassionate woman. RIP Janina, may God bless your family at this difficult time.
