Targeting economic employers

While logistics companies provide transport services, the real power in global supply chains is held by economic employers. These are the multinational corporations at the top of supply chains which ultimately profit from goods being moved around the world.

Economic employers need to recognise that they bear responsibility throughout their supply chains. They must respect the rights of their own retail and office workers, but also the farmers and miners who supply their raw materials, the factory workers who convert them into products, and the transport workers who move them to be stored and sold at each level of the supply chain.

The ITF works with other global union federations to ensure that workers are made visible throughout supply chains. As part of our engagement in the Council of Global Unions, which the ITF currently chairs, we aim to jointly hold economic employers to account for the decisions that affect millions of people worldwide.
