Dublin dockers succeed in reclaiming jobs

Dockers at the south bank of Dublin Port, Ireland, have won a deal to reclaim their jobs, bringing to an end their long-running dispute with cement company Ecocem, thanks to support from SIPTU (Services, Industrial, Professional and Technical Union), the ITF and the solidarity of local truck drivers.

East Asia action begins Monday

Teams of ITF inspectors, along with dockers’ and seafarers’ union members, will begin the first East Asian maritime action week of 2015 on Monday across ports in Japan, Korea, Russia and Taiwan. The action week will run from 26 to 30 January.

ITF repeats call for Rotterdam dialogue as dockers protest

The ITF (International Transport Workers’ Federation) today called for all-party talks on the future of the port of Rotterdam, as dockers refused to unload a ship loaded at the new Rotterdam Gateway (RWG) terminal. RWG, unlike other companies at the port, refuses to negotiate a collective bargaining agreement with port workers, who are represented by the FNV Havens union.
