Organising

Unions are facing enormous challenges in today’s globalised transport industry. Privatisation, deregulation and commercialisation have led to railway line closures, the manufacturing industry being moved outside of railway systems, and jobs losses. This has resulted in the reduction of trade union membership.

Meanwhile, the transport industry is growing creating new areas of employment. Many of these new jobs are not organised. Trade unions have a duty to protect workers’ rights and interests by building strong membership and strong trade union organisations.
