Sexual harassment in the matatu industry

Sexual harassment in the matatu industry is one of the dangerous malpractices discouraging women from working in this sector. As a result, we are coming up with a strategy to end this form of harassment in both the informal and formal sectors of the transport industry.
Thanks to the previous engagements and the sensitisation and awareness activities, the audience should understand that sexual harassment at work is a sensitive matter and that it should be handled with a lot of care and reported immediately if you have been harassed or notice any sexual harassment at work.
It’s important to understand that no one should have to put up with sexual harassment in order to get a good paying job. Sensitisation and awareness of sexual harassment in the transport industry can be done through holding campaigns, having one-on-one meetings or holding virtual meetings with the workers.
Convention 190 and Recommendation 206 recognise that preventing and eliminating violence and harassment in the world of work requires members to respect, promote and realise the fundamental principles and rights at work as well as promote decent work. Workers need to understand that sexual harassment is a global issue that can be addressed at local level.
