Everyone loved working on the railway. Not anymore,” says UK rail worker Kathy Mazur. Privatisation and austerity have sparked an explosion in passenger violence, and workers feel unsupported by their managers. “It took 10 policemen to restrain him, to get him off the train,” she says of one dramatic experience she was lucky to survive. “My manager just said ‘you’ll be alright, Kathy, you’re used to these things’.”
