Workers at Industries Chimiques du Sénégal (ICS) – a subsidiary of Singapore-based multinational Indorama – were fired simply for asking for personal protective equipment (PPE) to do their jobs safely.
For years, these drivers have endured exploitation:
- No PPE, risking their health handling hazardous materials
- No employment contracts, despite years of service
- No social security or health insurance, forcing them to pay medical costs out of pocket
Now, ICS has dismissed them without notice, compensation, or justification—a violation of Senegalese law and international labour standards. The ILO Guidelines on the promotion of decent work and road safety in the transport sector make clear that providing these basic protections for drivers is essential to protect everyone on the road.
Sign our petition to Foreign Minister of Senegal Yassine Fall to ask him to urgently intervene to protect these workers. Fall is the minister representing Senegal within the International Labour Organization (ILO) – responsible for ensuring that Senegal upholds their international commitments.
The ITF and our affiliate in Senegal, Union des Routiers du Sénégal (URS), are demanding:
1. Immediate reinstatement of all 103 drivers
2. Full regularisation of their employment status, including contracts and social security
No worker should lose their job for demanding dignity and safety!
