Maria is the Union Secretary of a Finnish union for Locomotive drivers. She has held this position for approximately one year.
She has a masters degree in law (major Labour Law), she worked as a lawyer for other Finnish unions before taking her position in the Finnish Locomotive Drivers' Union. She is responsible for organising, young workers, education and legal amongst other things.
Maria says "The youth work is essential to our survival, the foundations are good as 99.7% of the locomotive drivers in Finland are members. Our main goal is now to get them activated. If our union is strong we will be able to help others worldwide".
