Travis works as an Electronic Technician in the maintenance department of Coast Mountain Bus Company in Vancouver. He is also a Union Representative for the Canadian Auto Workers (CAW) Local 2200.

Travis began his union career in 2005, when he became the editor of his Local Union Newsletter. He was instrumental in forming a Youth Committee. He was later elected to an interim position as a Trustee with the Local. His duties included conducting half-yearly audits of the Local’s finances and reporting back to the membership with his recommendations.

In 2007, Travis ran for a Table Officer (Senior) position within his Local Executive Board. After a tough election campaign, he was elected to be the Recording Secretary for a three-year term.

Travis began his involvement with the CAW National Union through the CAW National Youth Network, an Internet based discussion group. Within 18 months, the Youth Network had risen from a nucleus of 17 members to 175 nationwide. The Youth Network keeps young workers informed on relevant issues as well as allowing them to hold open discussions.

Travis continues to be involved with his Local Union Youth Committee, the CAW National Youth Network and CAW Local 2200 as an Executive Officer. As the CAW representative on the ITF Young Workers Steering Committee, he is excited at the rapid gains that have been made and looks forward to both continuing this work into the future, and making the ITF’s work more relevant to the young workers in the CAW, all across Canada.
