Dispute between CONTTMAF and PETROBRAS and its transport subsidiary, TRANSPETRO is over

ITF Action Alert – Follow up

06 April 2005

To all seafarers’ affiliates

Dear Friends

Dispute between CONTTMAF, Brazil and Petrobras SA

Please be advised that the dispute between CONTTMAF and PETROBRAS and its transport subsidiary, TRANSPETRO is over.  The dispute saw a progressive escalation and ultimately 38 of the 50 tankers in the fleet were involved in the action.

We are also pleased to advise you that the union was able to secure most of their demands and that a new agreement will be signed.

As the dispute is over, we would request that no more action alerts should be sent.

CONTTMAF has requested that we thank all those who supported their actions or sent letters of support.  It is clear that this is a significant victory for the union and for the Brazilian labour movement.

We hope that this information assists you.

Yours fraternally

Jon Whitlow
Secretary
