Protest at Rio Tinto London AGM
Rio Tinto miners bring their fight to London outside AGM, 15 April 2010
Solidarity with locked out Rio Tinto workers, Boron, USA
Background
In January this year, Rio Tinto locked out about 570 hourly workers from the Borax mine in Boron, California following a refusal from the workers to accept the company's concessionary contract ultimatum. One of the atrocious demands included allowing the company to convert good jobs into temporary, part-time or outsourced positions with few or no benefits.
Since the lockout, Rio Tinto has replaced its experienced, skilled workforce with workers from its other facilities and with contract workers supplied by a company that specializes in providing strike breakers to firms engaged in strikes or lockouts.
