The only absence that needs to be explained by DHL is the dismissal of Monica Okpe. It is an outrage in 2011 that an employee can be treated in this way by a multi global employer. I will not be using any future services of DHL until I receive confirmation that Monica has been reinstated. May I suggest that all private and commercial business' also do the same.

We are writing to state our strong concern that Monica Okpe, a Shop Steward and Branch Secretary for the Norwegian Transport Union (Norsk Transportarbeiderforbund), was dismissed on 6th May 2011 by DHL Local Management at the Ulven terminal in Oslo on the grounds of “unexplained absences” and is yet to be reinstated.
Local union activists have informed us that they believe this dismissal was contrived by the local management in order to get rid off an effective trade union representative.
We understand that the case is currently under investigation and is now in front of the Norwegian courts. We expect it to be resolved in Monica's favour and the behaviour of DHL’s local management to be condemned.
The ITF and UNI are extremely concerned at this reported activity of the DHL Management in Ulven and we would seek your urgent investigation of this situation to ensure Monica is reinstated immediately.

We wish to extend our on-going solidarity to trade union activist Monica Okpe, a Shop Steward and Branch Secretary for the Norwegian Transport Union (Norsk Transportarbeiderforbund), who was sacked on 6th May 2011 by DHL local management at the Ulven terminal in Oslo on the grounds of “unexplained absences".
The reason given for Monica’s dismissal provides strong evidence that the company is out to get rid of a union official who stands up for member’s rights and trade union values. Last year Monica stood out as a leader during the dispatch strike which won important rule changes on the use of temporary workers, employment agencies and short term contracts at DHL Norway.
Monica Okpe is a union rep in the Transport Workers Union who has won the confidence of members in the workplace as well as in the wider trade union movement through many years of hard work. She is on the steering committee of LO Oslo (trades council) and in the transport workers equality commission.
We stand beside you in your refusal to accept the company's recent actions and in your fight to see Monica get her job back at DHL Norway.
As members of the ITF and along with the many workers and trade unions in the logistics industry, we stand together with you in this struggle.

We are writing to state our strong concern that Monica Okpe, a Shop Steward and Branch Secretary for the Norwegian Transport Union (Norsk Transportarbeiderforbund), was dismissed on 6th May 2011 by DHL Local Management at the Ulven terminal in Oslo on the grounds of “unexplained absences” and is yet to be reinstated.
Local union activists have informed us that they believe this dismissal was contrived by the local management in order to get rid off an effective trade union representative.
We understand that the case is currently under investigation and is now in front of the Norwegian courts. We expect it to be resolved in Monica's favour and the behaviour of DHL’s local management to be condemned.
The ITF and UNI are extremely concerned at this reported activity of the DHL Management in Ulven and we would seek your urgent investigation of this situation to ensure Monica is reinstated immediately
