Solidarity with Airline Catering Workers at Gate Gourmet and LSG Sky Chefs

ITF affiliates in USA and Germany are calling on ITF aviation affiliates to express their solidarity with workers in LSG Sky Chefs and Gate Gourmet who are facing difficult negotiations in their struggle to secure fair contracts.

Background

ITF affiliates, UNITE-HERE and International Brotherhood of Teamsters in the USA and Ver.di in Germany are currently engaged in contract negotiations with LSG SkyChefs and Gate Gourmet, the two giants in the world of airline catering. The unions are facing difficult talks and are seeking the solidarity and support of ITF affiliates in their struggle to secure fair contracts for their members. A partner union in Germany, NGG, affiliated to our sister global union, the IUF, is also involved in the negotiations.

These workers make and deliver food for most airlines. In recent years, the workers have made sacrifices to help the companies in difficult financial times. For example, in 2005 workers in the USA in both companies took wage and benefit cuts. They now feel that as both companies have improved their financial picture, they deserve fair wages, benefits and job security.
