11 Sep 2009 Show your solidarity for LOT workers LOT Polish Airlines in anti-union actions
10 Sept 2009: Polish airline LOT is attempting to terminate its workforce’s current collective bargaining agreement and introduce a new contract from 1 October 2009 that would cut salaries by 15 per cent and reduce staff by the same amount.
In July, the President of LOT dismissed the leaders of the ITF’s cabin crew union and the airlines employees association.
The ITF is calling upon affiliates to write again to CEO Sebastian Mikosz expressing their grave concern about this situation. Star Alliance unions are asked to write to their own airline CEOs to raise this issue.

Take Action: Star Alliance Message
STAR ALLIANCE unions - please use this text to send to airlines CEOs
I am writing to you on behalf of my union, to register my serious concern about the developments in LOT Polish Airlines.
As a member of the International Transport Workers' Federation, I have received very worrying information about anti-union actions which are taking place in this company, one of the members of the Star Alliance
I understand that LOT is attempting to terminate its workforce’s current collective bargaining agreement and introduce a new contract from 1 October 2009 that would cut salaries by 15 per cent and reduce staff by the same amount.
I also understand that the airline has already embarked on other anti-union practices, notably dismissing Elwira Niemiec president of the Polish Cabin Crew Union and Grzegorz Kossowski, president of the LOT Polish Airlines Employees Union, in July. The ITF and the European Transport Workers' Federation, ETF raised their concerns with the company, but the two union leaders have yet to be reinstated. Since then, meetings have been deadlocked.
I would strongly encourage to intervene at corporate level to ensure that the union leaders are reinstated and that negotiations for the new collective agreement are commenced immediately.
Thanking you for your attention
Yours sincerely etc.
