Background

Members of CAW Local 2002 began strike action at midnight on the 14th June, following the breakdown of 10 weeks of negotiation, and after the company refused to remove major concessionary demands on the existing pension plan.

Picket lines are in place at various locations and the CAW has asked union members to respect them.

The union stated: ‘CAW members are being asked not to fly Air Canada during the labour dispute with the company. Air Canada has hired replacement workers to perform the duties of CAW members, in addition to deploying hundreds of managers across the country.

‘The CAW regrets any inconvenience the labour dispute may cause and asks that CAW members, affiliated unions and supporters make alternate travel arrangements until the labour dispute is settled.

The CAW has been on strike at Air Canada since June 14 at 12:01, following a breakdown in negotiations involving concessions to the pension plan. Picket lines have been set up at airports across the country – union members are asked not to cross the picket lines.’

‘The most recent collective agreement expired on February 28.’

CAW Local 2002 represents 3,800 members at Air Canada, who work in customer service and sales in major airports and call centres.
