Even as we’re offering help to the dockers of Auckland news has come in of a tentative agreement in the Longview dispute, which has galvanised ITF dockers around the world in support of their comrades in the ILWU.
The power of solidarity was visibly on show this week. A meeting at ITF House of dockers and seafarers’ union reps put the management of Ports of Auckland Limited on notice that unless they act to settle the dispute there they risk us making them a ‘port of convenience’, with all that that implies for their image and future.
