Industrial action called off as union reaches deal with German airline

6 August 2008

Civil aviation workers have ended a dispute with German flag carrier Lufthansa after a settlement was reached last week.

The workers, represented by the ITF-affiliated union Verdi, took five days of strike action at the end of last month as part of the pay dispute. This led to a number of cancelled Lufthansa flights and chaos at airports across Germany. The dispute was settled following around the clock negotiations, which ended last Friday.

The agreement will see workers receive a 5.1 per cent pay rise from 1 July this year and a further 2.3 per cent in the following July. They will also benefit from a one-off payment of up to 2.4 per cent. The agreement runs until February 2010.

Members are now being asked to endorse the agreement.
