New General Secretary for Italian affiliate
18 July 2008
Franco Nasso has been elected the new General Secretary of an Italian transport affiliate after being backed by a labour confederation leader.
Nominated by Guglielmo Epifani, General Secretary of the Italian labour confederation Confederazione Generale Italiana del Lavoro (CGIL), Nasso was elected General Secretary of the ITF-affiliated Federazione Italiana Lavoratori Trasporti (FILT), the transport branch of the CGIL. The branch’s steering committee voted overwhelmingly in favour of his appointment. He replaces Fabrizio Solari, who was elected Confederal Secretary of CGIL last month.
Currently National Secretary of FILT, Nasso has been responsible for public transport and rail services. He began his trade union career as a rail worker shop steward and then became General Secretary of the Turin branch of FILT and of the regional Piedmont branch.
