Call centre employees get tailor-made event
21 October 2004
Workers in transport industry call centres and bookings staff will be the focus of an ITF conference planned for the end of November in London, England.
Call centres are a growing area of interest for transport unions, particularly in the rail and aviation sectors. American Airlines and British Airways outsourced back office administration and ticketing to lower cost countries in the late 1980s. Now, privatised railway industries are increasingly outsourcing ticketing and information services.
The conference, which will take place on 22 and 23 November, will hear from those involved in organising call centres, including the ITF’s sister global union Union Network International. Meanwhile participants from different regions of the world will be given the opportunity to discuss the policy, campaign, research and education needs for this group of transport workers - many of whom are women.
Airline reservations staff, passenger ferry reservations staff, railway and bus bookings staff, and call centre workers in express package delivery are the target groups for the meeting.
ITF unions wishing to send delegates should submit nominations by 1 November. For more information, please contact finke_sarah@itf.org.uk.
