What is the situation on 4/9/2006?
According to ETF:
- Attention has to be paid to the consistency between the EU Regulation on driving times and rest periods and the Working Time Directive.
Working time: Maximum 48 hours per week and 60 hours over a reference period of four months (six months after consulting the social partners)
Driving times and rest periods:
Driving time: Maximum of 56 hours per week. It is clearly stated that the weekly working time cannot be higher.
- The implementation of the Working Time Directive to self-employed should not lag behind.
- ETF asked the Commission to take the necessary steps to force the Member States to transpose the Directive.
FOLLOW-UP of the working time:
In March 2006 (i.e. one year after the deadline for the implementation of this legislation), the situation was as follows:
Austria, Germany, Netherlands, Luxembourg, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Greece and, partly, the Czech Republic had not transposed the Directive yet.
In June, they were still 9 Member States which had to transpose it.
