Since the European transport sectors are mainly regulated at EU level, the ETF is convinced it has to play an active role to building up the capacity of national affiliates to engage in genuine industrial relations and policy making. The project called “Training to improve capacity building for Trade union officers of NMS and candidate countries”, which ran from September 2009 to September 2010, addressed trade unions’ representatives coming from New Member States and Candidate Countries.
Training events were organised in Vilnius, Ljubljana and Istanbul. The participants received training in organising and negotiating skills. In the frame of this EU-funded project, two training brochures were developed on the aforementioned topics and can be downloaded under related documents.
The brochure on organising skills prepares trade unionists by explaining the theories of motivation, the history of trade unions and how to organise workers. The brochure on negotiating skills aims to get you to consider what is involved in the process of negotiation, how you currently approach negotiation, how the other side might approach negotiation and what you can do differently.
Both brochures give you some pointers about how to look at your own practice and seek to learn from it.
