Drivers approached by unions to join the campaign

The ETF 14 May action day against further liberalisation in road transport mobilised thousands of trade union activists and rank and file members working in the sector. First round of estimate figures indicate about 10,000 colleagues participating in the action, calling, faxing, emailing and tweeting Commissioner Kallas in a determined effort to say ‘NO!’ to further liberalisation in road transport in Europe. The ETF launched the action at 09:00 by sending the first email, fax and tweet message to the Commissioner. The ETF Road Transport Section President and the Members of the Section Steering Committee follow swift with their personal messages by email and fax. The action received support from other European Trade Union Federations and from Members of the European Parliament. See photos from the national and local actions heremore >>

ETF European action day to say ‘NO’ TO FURTHER LIBERALISATION IN ROAD TRANSPORT!

On 14 May 2010, the cabotage rules came into force at the EU level. However, until present the rules have not been properly applied and controlled. As a result, today, more than ever, we are confronted with unfair competition, social dumping and slavery in road transport. Despite the dramatic situation of labour in our sector, the European Commission wants to eliminate all cabotage restrictions and wants full liberalisation in road transport. A proposal in expected by the European Commission later in 2013. more >>

ETF CALLS ON THE EUROPEAN COMMISSION TO STOP FURTHER LIBERALISATION IN ROAD TRANSPORT

On 14 May 2013, the European Transport Workers’ Federation (ETF) organises a European action day mobilising trade union activists and rank and file members to storm the European Commission with a clear “NO!” to further liberalisation in the road transport sector. Messages will be sent from all over Europe by fax, email and via social networks to make the point that three years into the adoption of the new road cabotage rules, the sector is not ready for more market opening. The ETF calls on the European Commission to drop their plan for further liberalisation and step up efforts to eradicate social dumping and improve enforcement of social, labour and road transport legislation within the EU. more >>
