Paddy Crumlin is new ITF President

Paddy Crumlin, National Secretary of the MUA (Maritime Union of Australia) has just been elected President of the ITF (International Transport Workers’ Federation) at the global union federation’s world congress in Mexico City.
The ITF represents over 4.6 million members of 760 trade unions worldwide and its President is tasked with helping hold the organisation to account between these congresses, which set its policy for the next four years. Paddy Crumlin, age, is the twenty-second person to take on the post.
Speaking from Mexico, Crumlin said: “I’m excited to be able to take on this new role and play my part in moving the work of the ITF, its hundreds of affiliated unions and their millions of members forward through the implementation of a comprehensive organising programme focused on trade union regeneration and revitalisation.”

BIOGRAPHY, PADRAIG CRUMLIN
National Secretary, Maritime Union of Australia
Padraig Crumlin (Paddy) went to sea in the Australian Merchant Navy in 1978.
He has been a full-time union official since 1987 including Branch Secretary and Assistant National Secretary of the Seamen’s Union of Australia and after amalgamation with the Waterside Workers’ Federation of Australia in 1993, became the Deputy National Secretary and subsequently the National Secretary of the Maritime Union of Australia.
Paddy has wide involvement in the port authority, towage, shipping, hydrocarbon, diving, cruise ship and stevedoring industries in Australia and Internationally
Paddy was elected as Vice Chair of the International Transport Workers Federation (ITF) in August 2006.He was also elected as Chair of the Dockers Section of the ITF.He is an Executive Member of the ITF.
Paddy has represented international seafarers at the International Labor Organisation on maritime conventions for over 15 years in a senior capacity

Vice President of the Asia Pacific Region of the ITF He has demonstrated a capacity to reach across different sectors of the ITF to consolidate and lead a wide range of objectives.
In Australia he has overseen the development ATUF the Australian Transport Unions Federation (Rail, Tram and Bus Union, Transport Workers Union of Australia and the Maritime Union of Australia) and has successfully campaigned for the Sub Regional office of the Asia Pacific regional sector of the ITF now based in Sydney Australia.As well as leading the formation of strategic alliances between Australian, New Zealand and Regional unions including the Oil and Gas Alliance and Trans-Tasman Transport Alliance.Paddy is also widely respected for his central role in trade union development in East Timor and Papua New Guinea,
