European Railway Workers' Action Day on Tuesday 13 April

9 April 2010

On Tuesday 13 April 2010 the European Transport Workers’ Federation (ETF) organises a European Railway Workers’ Action Day to campaign for good railway systems and fair jobs. The ETF wants to draw the public attention to the consequences of the liberalisation and fragmentation policy of the European Union. The ETF pleads for integrated and affordable public rail services in which governments invest, for good working conditions and the respect of collective agreements and rights of railway workers.

For good railway systems and fair jobs

Trade unions from Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, France, Germany, Italy, Luxembourg, Spain and Switzerland confirmed already their participation to this Railway Workers’ Action Day and reported to the ETF they will organise various actions in their countries. This action day is a continuation of the European Railway Workers’ Demonstration on 17 December 2009 in Brussels and part of a long-term campaign to focus on the strong dissatisfaction after almost 20 years of liberalisation, fragmentation and privatisation of the European railways. The action day is enshrined in a global campaign led by the International Transport Workers’ Federation (ITF) who calls for an International Railway Workers’ action day on that same day.
