Google free translation service: Deutsch, Français, Español, Svenska, Italiano, Português - About these links News onlineETF supports the railway trade union action in FYR Macedonia! 9 February 2005 The ETF / ITF affiliate the Syndical Railway Federation of FYR Macedonia informs us that Macedonian railway workers have started a series of actions in protest to the way in which the national government understands to implement the restructuring programme in the railway sector.Concretely, the workers protest against the sudden decision of the FYR Macedonian government to start dismissal of 800 workers before the term initially announced. Furthermore, they protest to the complete lack of sustained consultation with trade unions in drafting the social programme to accompany the railway restructuring process. As a result, the actual social measures to be implemented by the Macedonian government are weak and of short-term, the severance payments are low and there are no financial provisions to support early retirement. The ETF will therefore take the following action in support of the Macedonian colleagues: - send protest letters to the Minister of Transport, Minister of Labour and Social Policy and the management of the FYR Macedonia Railway Company - inform all ETF affiliates about this labour conflict and urge them to send similar protest letters to the above mentioned institutions -mobilise support of the Macedonian colleagues amongst the railway trade unions from South Eastern Europe, particularly from the Corridor X countries - organise as soon as possible exchange of good practice on social programmes for redundant railaway workers, to involve social partners and policy makers from FYR Macedonia and other South Eastern European countries. To support the action of the Syndical Railway Federation of FYR Macedonia fill in the attached letters with your union details and send them out to the respective ministries and railway company management (copy to president of the Syndical Railway Federation of FYR Macedonia).
