From 1 May 2006, all new registered vehicles in the EU must be fitted with digital tachographs.

The Regulation contains a new article 15.7 defining what the drivers must be able to submit to the enforcement inspectors and makes a clear reference to the current week and the previous 15 days.

After consulting DG TREN, it was specified that these are not working days but calendar days.

From 1 May 2006, the driver must be able to show the record sheet of the current week and of the previous 15 days. This means a total of 22 days (up to 7 days of the current week and the previous 15 days).

Only from 1January 2008, the drivers will have to be able to submit the record sheet of the current day and the previous 28 days.

The Commission is prosecuting legally the Member States which have not issued the cards yet and organized the approval workshops. These States are Portugal and Greece.
