The ITF tourism services section represents workers in all areas of the leisure and travel industry. It’s the smallest section in terms of the number of affiliates, but also the fastest growing.
Outsourcing and new technology are changing the face of the industry. For example, workers are being made redundant as electronic ticketing and computer-based booking systems become more widespread. Our role is to ensure that all workers’ rights are protected as the industry evolves.
We are committed to:
- creating strategies to manage the impact of new technology, working with governments, companies and trade unions
- organising and mobilising the workers
- raising social and environmental awareness
- supporting women workers
- quality, sustainable tourism, protecting both consumers and workers
- developing policies to deal with multinational companies
- improving training and qualifications for tourism workers
- emphasising the importance of health and safety
We also work with other trade union internationals, including the International Union of Food, Agricultural, Hotel, Restaurant, Catering, Tobacco and Allied Workers’ Association (IUF) and the International Federation of Commercial, Clerical, Professional and Technical Employees (FIET).
This co-operation has lead to the creation of the European tourism trade union co-ordinating committee.
