Education is an important tool to help build strong unions in response to the global restructuring of the transport industry. The ITF places emphasis on education activities which deal with issues linked to globalisation in the transport industry, relate to the industrial priorities of the different transport sectors, and are coordinated on a sub-regional, regional and global level. Both industrialised and developing countries are targeted. more >>
These were the striking words from Professor Elaine Bernard, the head of the Labor and Worklife Program, at Harvard Law school, who gave a presentation at ITF house entitled “Organizing and the Future of the Labour Movement”. This was presented on 15th July 2008, for the purpose of educating ITF staff, given the central role that organising occupies within the trade union movement and in the ITF work programme Organising Globally. more>>
The 2008 Summer School will be held exclusively for unions in the Asia/Pacific region. The ITF affiliate the National Union of Seafarers of India (NUSI) will host the summer school at its facility in Panvel, Mumbai. more>>
The ITF has produced a strategic campaigns manual as part of a project supported by FNV Mondiaal. The manual is designed to help unions plan specific campaigns, which target either employers or government.
The manual is a step by step guide on how to plan and implement an effective campaign. Modules include identifying targets that could bring pressure to bear on the main target, developing strategies and tactics, identifying strengths and weaknesses, and case studies of actual campaigns. more >>
As part of the ITF global project 'Training the Trainers', the Education Department has completed 2 education modules entitled 'Introducing the ITF' and 'Transport logistics'.
The modules are designed to support education activities relating to issues of globalisation, transport restructuring and how trade unions can respond and develop new strategies.
