Education

Education is an important tool to help build strong unions in response to the global restructuring of the transport industry. The ITF places emphasis on education activities which deal with issues linked to globalisation in the transport industry, relate to the industrial priorities of the different transport sectors, and are coordinated on a sub-regional, regional and global level. Both industrialised and developing countries are targeted. more >>




Regional Summer School 2008, Asia/Pacific

The 2008 Summer School will be held exclusively for unions in the Asia/Pacific region. It will be held in Mumbai, India from 22-26 September. The ITF affiliate  the  National Union of Seafarers of India (NUSI) will host the summer school at its facility in Panvel, Mumbai. more>>

Profile of Anna Karume, ITF Africa regional education coordinator

Anna Karume is the new ITF Africa education coordinator based at the Africa regional office in Nairobi. She sees motivating trainers to build enthusiasm and initiatives needed for organising locally and responding to the global organising challenge, as key priorities for unions in the region. more>>

Global terminal operator- APM Arab World responses

An Arab world seminar focusing on APM terminal operators concluded with a need to develop a minimum set of principles based on international labour standards that APM Terminals should respect. Other seminar outcomes included a commitment to increasing union strength in the region, engaging APM in dialogue and organising workers in the terminals. more>>

Strategic Campaigns Manual

*Strategic Manual

The ITF has produced a strategic campaigns manual as part of a project  supported by FNV Mondiaal. The manual is designed to help unions plan specific campaigns, which target either employers or government.

The manual  is a step by step guide on how to plan and implement an effective campaign. Modules include identifying targets that could bring pressure to bear on the main target, developing strategies and tactics, identifying strengths and weaknesses, and case studies of actual campaigns. more >>

*Education Module Folder - Introducing the ITF

As part of the ITF global project 'Training the Trainers', the Education Department has completed 2 education modules entitled 'Introducing the ITF' and 'Transport logistics'.

The modules are designed to support education activities relating to issues of globalisation, transport restructuring and how trade unions can respond and develop new strategies.

The purpose of the modules is to enable you as educators to conduct education seminars on the role of the ITF for example, in the context of globalisation, international trade unionism and in particular the importance of international solidarity in today's globalised economy.

Reaching out to informal workers
